Automation
with the ORCA System
Compact, yet robust, the ORCA®
Robotic Arm brings dependable robotic
automation to the laboratory with precision and flexibility.
ORCA® works reliably with common
labware and instrumentation in a space-efficient, time-saving and safe
manner. The ORCA® Robotic Arm is a key component of the
SAGIAN™ Core
System Strate

|
The ORCA system is engineered to be
positionally repeatable,
providing reliable long-term, uninterrupted use. The arm traverses a
rail that can be located at the front or back of a standard laboratory
workbench, or placed in the middle of a table. The "extended envelope"
feature enables the arm to operate on both sides of the rail,
effectively doubling the useable workspace.
Absolute optical encoders eliminate hard
stops and permit ORCA to
resume operation from any position. Relative optical encoders and
digital servos provide for precise, stable, high-resolution positional
feedback.
Unlike heavy-duty industrial robots adapted
for laboratory use, the
ORCA can be set up quickly and easily, yet still provide the durability
and reliability needed for continuous around-the-clock productivity.
Today's biopharmaceutical laboratory is
focusing on speed - and
automation is the only way to accomplish it. Automating your lab makes
finding new drug leads quicker and less expensive by offering
significant improvements in efficiency, productivity and reliability.
That's why we engineered the first robot developed specifically for the
laboratory environment.

Precision Movements
The ORCA® Robotic Arm moves
with dexterity, manipulating various
labware throughout the integrated system. With six distinct axes of
motion, ORCA® has a broad, flexible range most other robotic
systems
are unable to match. The ORCA® system's inherent flexibility
allows
complicated movements, such as pouring, capping and uncapping.
The six axes of ORCA® motion
are:
- movement along a rail
- height
- reach
- bend
- twist
- grip

Rugged, Reliable Hardware
The external shell is comprised of
aluminum castings with durable
thermoplastic covers, providing a lightweight design with high
rigidity. Easy to clean and maintain, its compact design provides for
dexterity in tight lab space. All cabling is internal to the arm for an
uncluttered workspace and improved safety.

The ORCA Arm in an Integrated System
The ORCA Robotic Arm facilitates easy
access to a broad range of
peripheral devices and instruments. The linear rail comes in 1 meter, 2
meter, and 3 meter lengths and is easily upgraded to meet changing
needs in a cost-effective manner. The ORCA optimizes the use of the
laboratory worksurface by operating on both sides of the rail. Its
compact design provides for dexterity in tight spaces. The ORCA Robotic
Arm utilizes interchangeable grip fingers to handle a wide variety of
standard lab equipment safely and reliably.

|
System Integration
Whenever there's a need to reduce
tedious, repetitive, error-prone
laboratory tasks, there's a need for the ORCA system. No other robotics
system provides the flexibility, reliability and system integration
ease. For increased productivity and efficiency, automate your
laboratory with the ORCA.
